Zelma Lewis, representing Haiti Rise!-Kablaya, East Bay Church of Religious Science; Elena Gaudet, Tom Luce, St. Columba church Haiti Ministry. At the entrance of Orion School (K-6) heading to the party with 100 Bruner Scholarship students from all 4 schools, Orion, Mary Magdalen, Bro. Mareus, and Messiah.
Wow! What we all work for, the existence and progress of these schools and their students including our scholarship recipients! They all came to Orion for a party that included singing and dancing and having a meal! For two hours. A slide show and several videos will become available when I return.
All of us gathered in the outside entrance of Orion school. Welcome speeches and songs at first from Principal and organizer of the Bruner scholarships, Mr. Point-du-Jour, response from the HHE delegates Elena Gaudet, Zelma Lewis, Tom Luce and then all the students led by various teachers. Next came some lively hand clapping, singing and dancing that had students and adults rotating in and out. Look for the videos upon return.
Here you see students from Mary Magdalen seated getting ready to eat their dinner. Over 5 other rooms had benches brought in for all the students and adults. This gala party was a wonderful celebration and tribute to those community, school faculty/leaders and students who have been part of the struggle for good education for the most impoverished people of Grand Ravine, not just our recipients. A great time had by all as Elena, Zee and I tried our best to relate to individuals with hugs, knuckle bumping, waving, smiling! We learned about bumping knuckles and then bringing the knuckles up and bumping our heart!
