NOV. 17, 2012 - "KABLAYA & FRIENDS - MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA BENEFIT - 6- 9 pm CHURCH, RECEPTION IN HALL Earned: $1400
KABLAYA, who has already sung his special song, "Haiti", at St. Columba and who participated in last year's fall concert, has now assembled a large group of friends--including BRANICE MC KENZIE (an international star who has performed with Harry Belafonte and so many others) to raise money for our scholarship program. Kablaya has also performed in Carnegie hall this past winter.
Please come and help us recruit attendance at this concert. We want to attract at least 200 @ $10 to make $2000, almost enough for one month's tuition. Contact Tom Luce, 510-229-3571 or [email protected]
Help us distribute 2000 postcards (picture left) so that we can fill the church and earn enough money for one month's tuition for our 100 students.
E-mail Tom Luce or call him at 510-229-3571
Download a JPEG (front) JPEG (back) of this card to distribute to your network.

HHE's first year fundraising, 2010-2011, 170 students -- after the massive quake-- succeeded in meeting the bill, $36,000. This covered both supplies and tuition for the 170 students with scholarships at 5 area schools. Accounting, biographical materials, and ongoing communications were handled by a grassroots volunteer team, the "Grand Ravine Community Human Rights Council - GR-CHRC". Children were selected based on need, children who hadn't yet attended school, some as late as in their teens. The success rate was 93% passed on to their next level.
We read about INDIEGOGO in the AARP newsletter and have been impressed about the success of people using this internet tool. Well we didn't get anything close to $12,000 through INDIEGOGO, so we finish the year in debt by $893. and also nee to get a start on next year. We faced a school supplies bill of $3,500 for school supplies and have raised most of this. Then one month's tuition of $2,100.
Please contact Tom Luce <[email protected]> 510-575-6326 if you have any questions. We have a good accounting program and our partners in Haiti are long time trusted grassroots people--volunteers. If you want to know more about Grand Ravine and how we got connected, go to this website, "Hurah, Inc.", Human Rights Accompaniment for Haiti was begun in 2004 and helped develop the community-based organizations that would fight for human rights in the inner city of Port-Au-Prince where the HHE schools were identified in 2010.
