On Friday we began visiting the families of our two HHE leaders here in Haiti: Gentilhomme Jean-Gilles and Jean-Ernest Point du Jour.
Gentilhomme Jean-Gilles has been pursuing a faith-based calling to human rights advocacy putting his life on the line in the process. He began volunteering in '06 with the Haitian group, AUMOHD and working on non-violent justice with Tom Luce. He was studying computer science when the '10 earthquake destroyed his school and many professors. At that point he began working to make our HHE scholarship program credible with computer bookkeeping, student interviews and photos. He has always been available to serve as guide and driver for our visits. After a very difficult birth for both mom, Stéphanie and baby, Jean Lio, life has become pretty normal and exciting for everyone.

Jean-Ernest Point-du-Jour, president #4 of the Grand Ravine Community Human Rights Council (GR-CHRC). This community based volunteer group has been advocating for basic human rights since 2005 under very violent conditions: massacres/house burnings in the aftermath of the coup against Pres. Aristide. In 2010 when St. Columba formed its Haiti Ministry, Pres. Point-du-Jour reported that the best thing we could do was to put the most vulnerable children in school. You will see his picture several places in this blog and on our final slide show/video. But we had never met his family. He has one son, two daughters. This is his wife, Nadège. The baby is Gentilhomme's.
